Farewell! (For now)

Hello again!

Right now, our entire campus is busy studying for final exams, and the Honeys are no exception. It seems so incredible to me that another year is coming to an end. Time really did fly!

I just wanted to take a quick minute to congratulate all of my sisters, at all of our amazing chapters an colonys, for making it through another year of school and Delta Xi Nu. I think I can speak for most of us when I say that both are extremely important aspects of our lives, and I know that balancing the two isn't always easy. But we've made it, and now we can almost relax for a few months!

I also want to especially congratulate all of my sisters who are graduating this year. I'm so proud of all of you, and I know that you are all going to succeed! Some of you will be sticking around next year, and some of you are heading off to start new adventures. But no matter where you go or what you do, remember that you are always a Fly Xi Honey!

To everyone, whether you be a Honey or not, good luck with finals and have an amazing summer!

Been a Long Time

Hello everyone out there!

Looking at our blog, it seems to be the only part of our website that hasn't been revamped recently. In fact, there hasn't been a blog entry in nearly a year! That doesn't mean that the Beta Honeys haven't been busy, though.

So much has happened in a year that it seems pointless to try and recount everything. We've said goodbye to sisters who've graduated and moved away, and we've welcomed new additions to our sisterhood with open arms. I'm proud to call the girls of Delta Xi Nu my sisters, and I hope they can say the same about me.

One specific event that I do want to mention: National Conference! If you've checked out the photo gallery, you've probably seen the Conference '08 album, and know that Conference was held right here in New Orleans. It was an amazing experience, and I love getting to know my sisters from other chapters as well as refreshing and verifying my love for Delta Xi Nu. If you haven't yet checked out the pictures, I suggest you do so! You'll see girls from all of our Chapters and Colonies, as well as alumni, and even some of our Founding Mothers!

I've actually just come back from a sorority meeting, in which we discussed some of the upcoming things that we're going to be doing. We have some great service events lined up (including volunteering at a food bank, and playing with animals at a shelter), as well as some social events (we're grabbing a late lunch/early dinner together on Friday, and we're planning on going to the St. Patrick's Day Parade together). Anyways, there's always something the Honeys are doing together, even if it's something unofficial and unplanned. Mardi Gras just ended, and I went to most of the parades with my sisters. I have a regular, daily breakfast date with two of my sisters, and I always end up hanging out with one or more of my Honeys.

Stay tuned for more Honey updates!

The Springtime of Now

Oh, give us pleasure in the flowers today;
And give us not to think so far away
As the uncertain harvest; keep us here
All simply in the springing of the year.

-Robert Frost

Frost's prolific statements imply that we can find peace in looking at times of stability right now, at the current moment, instead of contemplating the hurdles that may lay ahead.

Nowhere is that statement more true than in a sorority. When times are good, sisters cling to each other, enjoy one another's company, and bask in the glow of sisterhood. When times are rough, we rely on each others' strengths to get us through this deadline. this event, this meeting, or even this day. We look for solace in what we have rather than thinking about what could happen tomorrow.

Not to say that any foresight should be ignored. Of course, we do have to plan ahead. Like the farmers in Frost's world planning as much as they can for the harvest at the end of the summer, we have to lay our plans out, our budgets and our schedules, for the semesters ahead and hope that everything goes as predicted. But like the farmers, we cannot predict how our crop, our product, will turn out. No one knows if this money will last for this committee, no one knows if this meeting will conflict with another sister's schedule, no one knows even if this layout, this structure, will work for the people being managed by it next year. We have to hope that our best wishes are made clear through our plans and that our sisters, current and future, will see that.

I think our chapter has learned to reach out to each other and hold onto the seconds we have right now in times of need. We have learned to keep taking in one moment at a time to get through our own worst fears. We have learned to depend on each other and the stability of now to get us through to next month and next year. And next year's dilemmas, while we give them a thought and make our best efforts to avoid them, are going to be next year's issue.

Letting the springtime of this minute hold us together is a lesson we have learned this spring.

Year's end

And now is the time of year when everybody gets sort of nostalgic and sad because we're about to part ways with some of our favorite people. For me, this is the first year that I've really gotten to know girls that are graduating, and I have to say- I'm going to miss them.

So this one goes out to all the graduating sisters this year- we love you and we're going to miss you. You have all taught us so much, and we will continue to make you proud to be a part of our flourishing sisterhood no matter where your life takes you!!!

Das My Sorors . . . .

So these past few weeks have been incredible! Honestly, when joining a sorority, I really thought that I would meet up with the other girls in an obligatory manner. I figured we'd meet for lunch or dinner every now and then, and for sorority events.

What I didn't expect was . . . bonding. My sisters and I have had so much fun lately, and the best part of it is telling people that we're more than just good friends-- we're sisters. We can literally do anything anywhere and still have a blast because the fun isn't in what we do, its in being together.

I think I'm starting to really understand sisterhood!

So the new semester has started for DXN . . and things are going amazingly well so far! We have an E-board with some new and old faces . . . some great activities lined up, and the best thing: no more drama! Let's hope for more good things to come!
